Tutorial: Using the Auto Index with Shadowbox

by theturninggate on October 8, 2009

Today, a new tutorial video demonstrating how to setup your auto index (TTG Pages, TTG Auto Index) to launch galleries using Shadowbox. This is a great way to launch Flash galleries! At the end of the tutorial, I also show some examples of Shadowbox in action with advice on how best to use it, and how not to use it. Total runtime is 10:17.

hi,
I tried to launch with autoindex a small video in swf format, simply pointing the autoindex.xml link on the “video.swf” file.
It works fine but the video is resized to fil the browser’s window. How can I fix the size of the box, to open the video at it’s original size ? I tried to make some changes in css with no result, so if someone know how to do that, some help would be very very usefull.
Thanks in advance

@Arnaud

You need to feed Shadowbox fixed dimensions for the video. There is no way to do this using TTG Auto Index due to the requirements of the PHP file. You would need to create your own HTML version of the page, which is easily done by saving the source code for an index via your browser. You should then edit the code to include the Shadowbox size instructions (see the Shadowbox website for details on how to specify size).

Of course, saving the source code as HTML would remove the “auto” functionality from the index.

Bottom line, while Shadowbox supports video playback, TTG Auto Index is not designed for it (because Lightroom doesn’t manage video). To make that happen, you’ll need to hack it.

Hi,
In deciding which TTG templates might be useful for me, I viewed all the tutorials. Being new to this, one thing isn’t quite clear to me. Say, I have a TTG Page with four Albums. And I have four Shadowbox galleries.
How are the indivual Shadowbox galleries referenced from the Album panes/thumbnails in TTG pages?
Best wishes,
Jan

@Jan:
TTG Pages has a gallery index which would serve as a table of contents for your image galleries. When creating your galleries, there is a section in the Site Info control pane labeled “Info for TTG Auto Index”, which is where the index will get the information it needs to create the index entry for that gallery. Does that answer your question?

Have you read the “Getting Started w/ TTG” article in the About & Help menu?

Hi.
I tried to setup TTG Pages and also TTG AutoIndex with the ShadowBox-Function. But my LIGHTROOM 3.0 freezes all the time I’m using the Shadowbox-Button.
Is there any help for this problem?

Best wishes,
Helmut

There’s a known issue affecting some WIndows users where Shadowbox will freeze Lightroom. This occurs because there is some error occurring in the Shadowbox script that causes Internet Explorer to choke only when embedded in Lightroom’s Web module for preview purposes. No idea why this happens, and because it’s an issue directly related to the Shadowbox script (which is not mine), there’s no fix for it. All I can do is advise you not to use that feature.
