Galleries freeze before 100%

by theturninggate on December 6, 2008

Some LR/Windows users have experienced issues with some of the galleries wherein the gallery will freeze prior to reaching 100% on preview generation or export.

This issue has not been reported to occur in LR/Mac.

I’ve been trying to find the source of the issue for some time, but hitherto have not been able to determine the cause.

The following steps are recommended to reduce the likelihood of the error, and have resolved the error for some users.

  • Upgrade to the latest version of Lightroom.
  • Upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer 7 (even if you use another browser, LR uses your IE installation to generate its web previews).
  • Access Lightroom’s Catalog Settings area, Relaunch and Optimize your catalog.
  • Delete any saved gallery presets for the problematic gallery.
  • Reinstall a fresh copy of the gallery web engine.

Advanced users are also encouraged to check that their system’s DLL files are up-to-date. I’m a Mac user and don’t know how to do this, but if you’re in the know, some users have said it helps.

Another test that can be performed is to create a new catalog, import some images and try to run a test gallery to see whether the issue recurs.

I’ve recently run into a similar problem, but on MAC.
It doesn’t quite freeze, but my gallery export slows to a CRAWL towards the end. We’re talking about a change of seconds per photo to MINUTES per photo.
Very recent problem, just started a couple days ago.
I have a MBP 2.4ghz, 4gb RAM, 320GB 7200rpm drive with 120GB free.

Was it working before?

Is the gallery completing export?

Did you change something about your LR, gallery or system configuration?

Is there a limit on the number of images in the gallery? I found this issue when I had 200+ images (selection gallery). Once I filtered down to <100 images, it was able to complete successfully.

Theoretically, no. In application, however, problems may arise depending upon the amount of available system resources and other factors. Lightroom can be buggy and temperamental as well, I’m sad to say.

Hello,
I am having a problem with lightroom in which the web section is not wide enough to let me access any of the customizations. I have maximized it as much as possible but I still can not get to everything I need to customize my page. It’s like it’s not giving me at least 30% of the right half of the options. I can’t do anything with this download until I figure out how to be able to actually see that I can change colors and fonts and sizes!

several of the TTG galleries were completely freezing LR3 beta 2 every time I clicked on them. I updated to IE8 and now they are working fine.
